About Shutdown Circuit

Shutdown Circuit is a circuit notebook, and purposely not a repository of complete designs.

I put this project together as a jumping-off point for teams in their first year of building an electric car - particularly those tackling the safety systems without much in-house electronics experience. Not every university covers practical electronics.

My hope is that this resource helps get teams over the line at tech inspection, without taking away the satisfaction of figuring it out yourself.

NU Racing

About me

Hi, I'm Michael - FSAE Electric alumni from Newcastle, Australia. I was lucky enough to be part of NU Racing's debut FSAE Electric campaign, where we became the first team at the 2019 event to pass technical inspection 🥳

Since then, my open source circuits and video walkthroughs, which cover components like the TSAL and Precharge, have been picked up and remixed by teams all over the world. It's been super gratifying to see those architectures turn up in other real competition cars, and to hear about teams questions and successes along the way.

If this site has been helpful, or you've got ideas for improvements, I'd love to hear from you.

Work with me

I work directly with FSAE teams on electrical system architecture, safety circuit design, schematic and PCB reviews, and documentation and knowledge handover. If your team is approaching any of this for the first time, get in touch.
